Mike Roberts | profile
Mike has been teaching eighth grade English at Rowland Hall since 1999. In that time, he has received numerous awards for outstanding teaching, including the Rowland Hall Sumner Faculty Award in 2007, the U.S. Department of Education’s American Stars of Teaching Award in 2008, and the 2009 Hoey Award in recognition of being the nation’s outstanding middle school English educator. Beyond the classroom, he has been a featured speaker at dozens of state, regional, and national conferences. He also has served on many educational committees, and currently is the assistant chair for the Middle Level Section of the National Council of Teachers of English. In addition, he writes a featured column in English Journal, and he recently agreed to co-author a teaching guide for new teachers. He earned both his B.A. (English and history) and M.Ed from Westminster College. In his free time, he enjoys messing around with his kids, shaving his head, and going for six-hour runs in the mountains.
