Posted 03/22/2016 02:00PM

Several Winged Lions were recognized with accolades this fall and winter.

Attaining All-State recognition in the Salt Lake Tribune in Girls Soccer are Megan Dingman, Liz Baer, Mariah Papac, Emma Carlin, and Julia Villar. All-State from the Deseret News goes to Liz Baer, Mariah Papac, Emma Carlin (First Team); Megan Dingman (Second Team); Caeli Kennedy, Julia Villar, Airam Perez (Honorable Mention). The following athletes were named to the All-State in The Salt Lake Tribune:  Emma Carlin (First Team); Mariah Papac, Liz Baer (Second Team); Airam Perez (Honorable Mention). Academic All-Region & Academic All-State goes to Callie Frey

Rowland Hall Volleyball players were also given All-State recognition, including Sara Matsumura (First Team in both the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune); Arielle Flynn (Second Team Deseret News, Honorable Mention in the Salt Lake Tribune); and Claire Ausbeck (Honorable Mention in Deseret News). Matsumura and Flynn were also named to the Utah Volleyball Coaches Association All-State Academic Team.

Based on her outstanding regular season performance in the pool, coupled with her excellent finishes and times (first in the 500 Free in record-breaking time; first in the 200 IM in near-record time; member of the record-setting 200 Free Relay team; member of the second-place 400 Free Relay team) at the State 2A Swim Meet, senior Julia Sanderson was named the 2A Female Swimmer of the Year for 2015-2016, an amazing and well-deserved honor for this hard-working, inspirational swimmer.

Basketball players Kyle Eng, Jack Scaife, Quincy Pinnell-Jackson, and Julia Villar—standouts in the Winged Lion program this year—were recognized by the Region 14 coaches as All-Region players for the 2015-2016 season. All-State teams in basketball have not yet been selected by the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News. If any Rowland Hall players receive that recognition, it will be shared on the athletes in the news page of our website. Senior basketball standout Kyle Eng was chosen to play in the mid-March 2A versus 1A Senior All-Star basketball game at South Sevier High School. Playing in this match is an honor bestowed on few from throughout the 2A ranks.

Region 14 recognized seniors Jonah Holbrook, Kyle Eng, Will Dischmann, Eric Tokita, and Donovan Murphy for their prowess in the classroom and named them to the Academic All-Region team in their respective sports. The Utah High School Activities Association named Donovan one of ten male swimmers in 2A to the Academic All-State team. He was recognized with a special award at the State 2A meet held at Brigham Young University.

Congratulations to these athletes!
