We had a total of eight Middle School basketball teams and 80+ basketball players on our rosters this season. Thank you to all our families for your support during the season and thanks to our Middle School Boosters for providing every athlete with a sport specific t-shirt and for hosting fan appreciation game nights to show our school spirit. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated group of coaches who put in countless hours to develop our student-athletes.
The 2017-2018 season is one of the best in recent memory for Winged Lion winter athletics! Congratulations to our athletes and coaches Amelia Wolfgramm, Cole Jackman, Hope Feliciano (swimming); Ronnie Ross, Romaro Rogers, Zach Paige (boys basketball); and Bill Tatomer, Ashlee Ostler, Stacy Martin (girls basketball). With a brand new coaching staff and a record number of swimmers, this year's team exceeded expectations. Senior and co-captain Sophie Hannah described the school's first-ever state title in swimming as "a direct representation of our persistence."
The senior has been skiing and succeeding in increasingly competitive races, including the World Junior Championships in Switzerland, and she's taking it all in stride.
It was a fun fall season for all six of our Middle School Athletic teams. The statistics from Rowland Hall's championship girls soccer season are impressive. They ended the season with an 18-0 record. They scored 168 goals, a new state record, and surrendered just six—three of which were in the championship game. Nearly every member of the team, including the goalkeeper, scored at least once during the season. And even the junior varsity team only lost one game this fall.
The Varsity Baseball team turned more double plays this spring than they have in the previous five seasons combined. "That was huge," new Head Coach Mac Estrada said. "To see the progression of kids actually knowing what to do in certain situations, and having the quickness to be able to do it." And that's just one statistic that shows the team's momentum.

Thanks to the hard work and dedicated effort of coaches and athletes, the 2016-17 Winged Lion winter athletic teams saw steady improvement and had solid success. Nearly seventy student-athletes took to the court and pool to represent the green and white this winter, bringing many exciting moments to fans with their fierce competitiveness, talent, and unmatched sportsmanship. It was another outstanding fall season of Rowland Hall Upper School athletics as Winged Lion teams captured four Region 14 team titles, six individual Region championships, two State 2A runner-up trophies, with all teams qualifying for post-season competition.

Upper School athletes enjoyed a successful winter season. The swim team and boys and girls basketball teams qualified for and took part in post-season competition.
Several Winged Lions were recognized with accolades this fall and winter. Each season, the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News honor athletes with All-State and All-Region titles.
If your son or daughter is planning to participate on one of the Upper School fall sports teams in the upcoming 2016-17 school year, please carefully review the Upper School Fall Athletic Information sheet as all teams begin practicing and competing early to mid August.

The Utah High School Activities Association named Rowland Hall Girls Soccer Head Coach Bobby Kennedy the 2A Coach of the Year.
