Rowmark Ski Academy wrapped up a landmark year with six national ski championship titles plus three titles from an alumna. While the team saw successes and personal bests throughout the year in all disciplines and all age groups, the national championship titles are the icing on the cake. In 2016, Rowmark skiers have captured more championship titles than any other ski academy in the country. "In my tenure as headmaster, I have never seen or heard of any ski academy with a comparable accomplishment," said Alan Sparrow, head of school.
The streak began in late February when senior Hannah West grabbed gold in downhill at the U19 National Championship. Taking gold is a milestone for anyone on the national stage, and this was an impressive start of the season for her.
Breezy Johnson '13 secured the US National Downhill Championship title in March by 1.02 seconds in Aspen, Colorado. She also won the season-long NorAm downhill title securing a World Cup spot for the 2016-17 season. This win culminated a fantastic season for Breezy including her first NorAm win, her first Europa Cup win, her first World Cup points and now her first National Championship.
Tommy Hoffman, Madi Hoffman, and Scottie Bocock captured national titles at the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) U14 and U16 National Championships at Snowbird at the end of March. Championship races bring over 100 of the top men and women from across the country to compete in super-G, giant slalom, and slalom events, and this event was no exception. Tommy Hoffman took the overall title and won the U14 Nationals, while also snagging the U14 National Slalom Championship title and the U14 National Super-G Championship title. Tommy's sister, Madi Hoffman, took the U16 National Slalom Championship title.
“These athletes have dedicated endless hours to their sport. Their hard work and commitment paid off as they competed against the highest level athletes from across the country in their respective age groups,” says Todd Brickson, Rowmark Ski Academy Diector. “These athletes captured consistent results all season long. Finishing the season with national titles is a result of their hard work and dedication.”
Congratulations to the athletes on their incredible accomplishments.
