Rowland Hall is celebrating its 150th anniversary—or sesquicentennial—and you're invited to the festivities this weekend, September 8-9! Head to for more information and to brush up on your Rowland Hall history. A roster of fun events culminates in a giant, not-to-be-missed celebration 5 to 9 pm Saturday, September 9, featuring live tunes from soulful and high-energy local band Metro Music Club, five food trucks, kids' activities, a photo booth, giveaways, and more. Note: We've surpassed 1,000 RSVPs for our Saturday night event! Parking will be limited, so please consider using a rideshare service, walking, or carpooling.

Here's your quick guide for each event!

Friday, September 8, at 4 pm
Good to know:

  • Free sunglasses and spirit pom poms for the first 150 fans!
  • Parking is available in the Steiner athletic field lot (enter from Sunnyside)
  • Don't forget: Sunscreen, sunglasses, a water bottle, and your cheering voice! Go Winged Lions!

Friday, September 8, from 6 to 8 pm
Good to know:

  • Parking is available in the student lot on Lincoln Street, the faculty lot (enter on 1000 East), and on the street
  • Dress is casual
  • Don't forget: Pose with friends and classmates at the photo booth!

Saturday, September 9, from 10 to 11:30 am
AVENUES CAMPUS TOURS at Madeleine Choir School
Good to know:

  • Parking is available on the street—consider carpooling!
  • Coffee, bagels, and OJ will be provided
  • Enter from A street
  • Don't forget: Wear your comfortable shoes to walk around
Saturday, September 9, from 12 to 2 pm
ROWMARK BBQ at Sugar House Park Big Field Pavilion
Good to know:

  • Dress is casual, be prepared to picnic in the park and play games
  • Bring/wear sun protection
  • Don't forget: Say hello to Olle Larsson, one of Rowmark's founders
Saturday, September 9, from 5 to 9 pm
Good to know:

  • Help conserve parking spots by walking, carpooling, or using a rideshare service such as Lyft or Uber. Drop off will be available in the roundabout in front of the school for ride share and drop off/pick up.
  • Parking is available in the McCarthey Campus south parking lot, the Steiner parking lot, and—thanks to our neighbor school—the Carmen B. Pingree Autism Center of Learning.
  • Dress is casual
  • Enter the event through the balloon arch in the South parking lot
  • Kids activities are open from 5 to 8 pm
  • The community "flash mob" dance will take place at 7 pm
Don't forget:
  • Bring a picnic or purchase food from our lineup of five food trucks: Urban Press (co-owned by alumnus Chip Jarman '99), Poutine Your Mouth, Apollo Burger, Chow Truck, and—just added—Thieps Eats!
  • BYOB
  • Bring a water bottle—we'll have water stations throughout the event
  • Bring lawn blankets or low-profile chairs for the concert
  • Take photos and use #RH150 to share on social media—next week, your post might just show up on the digital boards by our divisional main offices, and on our sesquicentennial website!
  • This event is rain or shine. Most activities will be held outside. In case of rain, activities will move indoors or under tented areas. Please check the weather and dress accordingly!

Reminder for events at Rowland Hall's McCarthey and Lincoln Street campuses: Rowland Hall does not allow dogs on campus, except service dogs for event patrons with special needs.
